Finally, in southern England, we’re getting some rain, but this is after five heat waves, and in the south of England, 59 days without rain. Farmers are having to use their winter stocks of feed for their animals, and many crops have just completely been obliterated in the drought. There have been wildfires across Europe and in North America. But as we enter the end of the summer season in the northern hemisphere, we’re seeing a different form of crisis. Flash floods in Peru and other places and now we see on the news devastating flash floods in Nepal, probably caused by a collapsing glacier and in turn caused by climate change.
We have to do something about this, and I appeal to everybody to stop using oil and gas products, whether it’s gas central heating or whether it’s a petrol or diesel car. We must reduce our carbon footprint because as you will see by the chart below, the global temperature is going up relentlessly and I don’t want to see summers in southern England here of more than 50 degrees, but that seemingly is possible now. Many parts of Europe have topped 40 degrees.

The question of global warming is nothing new. A scientist reporting in a newspaper in 1912 (see below) forecasted the problem of us pumping CO2 into the atmosphere. We must wake up and deal with this problem for the sake of our children and grandchildren.
